75 Years of DGKN – A Reason to Celebrate

The German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and Functional Imaging (DGKN) celebrated its 75th anniversary at its 2025 annual meeting. Esumedics GmbH was on site and presented our popular esumedics EEG and EMG systems MADE IN GERMANY to many interested visitors at the accompanying industrial exhibition.

Ease of use and Quality Make esumedics the Best Choice

From March 12th to 15th, the DGKN Annual Conference once again brought together physicians from across Germany to participate in a diverse program of lectures, panel discussions, education sessions and symposia. Esumedics GmbH was present with our products and services at the accompanying industrial exhibition. Our colleagues Mr. Jörg Lehmann, Head of Sales D-A-CH, and Hannes Conrad, Sales & Service DE – West, presented our esumedics EEG and EMG in form of a combined system to interested parties. The ability to get both features in a single device is a cost-effective and space-saving solution, especially for practicing neurologists or practice founders. Whether with or without a cart, with PC or laptop, with advanced options (e.g., full HD video, photic stimulator, AEP/VEP/SEP, and much more) – we will configure the right product for your needs.

Functionally, esumedics systems impress with clear and easy-to-understand software, meaningful signals, a shared database for EEG and EMG, and compatibility with third-party systems (e.g. from Neurowerk, Walter EEG, DWL, …), which offers the option of cost-effectively modernizing older devices with esumedics software and keeping them in operation. esumedics Supported FNTA EEG Seminar

On Friday, March 14, 2025, the German association FNTA hosted an informative EEG course with a strong practical component. Esumedics GmbH supported the course with an esumedics device. The training covered basic theoretical knowledge of correct EEG recording, the 10-20 system, and artifact detection or removal. Mrs. Dorothee Berief also demonstrated various application forms, electrode placements, and examination techniques, which the participants also practiced independently using the esumedics system. Our device received high praise for its ease of use and the simplicity to achieve effective examination results.

75 Years of German Pioneering Spirit Toward Modern Neurophysiology

More than 100 years ago, Hans Berger laid the foundation for today’s innovations and the history of the German Society of Neurophysiology (DGKN) with the invention of the first EEG device 1924. He was the first to detect and observe the electrical activity of the human cerebral cortex in a closed skull. This discovery led, among other things, to the first meeting of prominent German neurologists, clinical neurophysiologists, and EEG pioneers in Wiesbaden. As a result, the “German EEG Society” was founded in 1950, which later became the German Society of Neurophysiology (DGKN).

Over the years, the DGKN has assumed a leading role in the field of clinical neurophysiology and functional imaging, advancing the development and integration of cutting-edge technologies into clinical practice. It also assumed responsibility for quality assurance and defined the standards for all neurophysiological methods.

From the very beginning, the development of our esumedics EEG and EMG software solutions focused on quality, safety, and optimal user support in neurological diagnostics. Therefore, we closely followed the current guidelines of the German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and Functional Imaging (DGKN). A particular focus was on careful consideration of the guidelines for the determination of irreversible brain dysfunction. This sets the highest standards for accuracy and technical reliability, which our software meets through clear user guidance, automated testing mechanisms, and targeted documentation aids. In addition, relevant guidelines on EEG diagnostics in children and adults, as well as on the technical implementation and evaluation of somatosensory evoked potentials, were taken into account. These serve as an important basis for the quality-assured recording and analysis of neurophysiological measurements and were deliberately incorporated into the design of our software features – for example, through flexibly configurable electrode montages with longitudinal and transverse arrays, customizable stimulus parameters, or standardized evaluation templates.

We would like to thank the DGKN for the excellent organization of the conference and the opportunity to present our equipment, services, and comprehensive customer service on-site. We would also like to thank Dorothee Berief and the German FNTA for participating in their EEG seminar. Once again, we received a lot of positive feedback and several inquiries for our esumedics EEG and EMG devices from the three-day event.
